The objective of their study was to test whether 2D hydraulic modeling packages used for flood risk management are capable of predicting the variables upon which engineering decisions are based (Nelz et al., 2010). Commonly-used 2D Hydraulic modeling packages used for Environment Agency problems were tested including: MIKE21, Infoworks2D, TUFLOW, and JFLOW (Nelz et al., 2010). Application of this new component was evaluated using the same UK set of 2D hydraulic benchmarking tests used to evaluate the fourteen hydraulic packages. The tests ranged from simple flood analysis to major flood inundation simulations in complex terrain under various initial and boundary conditions, and shallow flows in urban areas with inputs from rainfall and sewer surcharge. The effects of shape of the 2D cells, number of nodeslinks on the model results are also presented. Additionally, this paper comments on the strengths and challenges faced by modelers conducting 2D hydraulic analyses. Reasons such as off-topic, duplicates, flames, illegal, vulgar, or students posting their homework. There are 3 tutorial examples that come with the SWMM5 package. Look for the.INP files. Swmm5 Download 20 InputYou can also download 20 input files from the SWMM W3 site. These are included in the epaswmm5qa.zip file, described as Quality Assurance report for dynamic wave flow routing on the W3 site. Swmm5 How To Calculate ProfileYou can also see examples posted at ENG-TIPS such asSmall culvert feeds into larger - how to calculate profile ( thread194-200519: Small culvert feeds into larger - how to calculate profile,.eng-tips. There is a page at Duke University with downloadable files ( ). There are others online at various universities. SWMM4.x files can be converted to SWMM5 files and used as well. Try some W3 searches for input files and you should get some hits. Let me know if you need more sources.. When you are in the storage node windows, clicking help will bring up help on that portion of the application. The best way to learn the application is to take a few hours to run through the tutorial and look through the examples. Once you do this, I think you will have a feel for the system and will be able to start applying it to a variety of applications. If you need further, post again and let me know.. I want to use an outlet node from a storage unit to model a riserbarrel structure from a pond. ![]() I could certainly generate this curve in terms of driving head vs. You can use a divider if needed, depending upon routing method (dynamickinematic). If you use a rating curve, SWMM will process this to allow the most limiting flow to drive the system. Your rating curve is invalid only if the rating curve incorporates the tailwater condition. I know that sounds backwards, but the tailwater condition needs to function independently of the riserbarrel (weirorificepipe) of the pond outlet structure - so you have that defined separately by the downstream channelcondition. Try this out and post again if this doesnt make sense or you try and need further help. Please attach your.inp file with any post. I really thought one or more pond examples were included.) Hope this helps.. I just put an orifice link and a conduit link downstream of the storage node. I intend this to represent the riser (orifice), then the barrel (conduit). ![]()
